THE ULTIMATE PARADOX: A TALE OF TWO TRUTHSTetsuo & Youth, the album everyone waited years for, finally released earlier this week. Ignorant fans, like me, however, praying for another "Cool" or "Food & Liquor," instead heard the best, and worst, rap album at the same damn time. Everything I enjoy about this album is everything I loathe it for. From the content, to the instrumentation, to Troi's pipes, I couldn't end the hate/love scenario. For instance, the subjects in particular songs, in spite of their profound logic and twerkable production, prohibit me from twerking because they're serious topics. In Chopper's hook, Lupe shouts: Filet mignon with my food stamps I can't twerk to these jokes, as if the upcoming Whole Foods on 63rd and Halsted won't accept Link. Or as if Link users don't already spend their link funding frivolously. The same thing happened when I heard Deliver. While Lupe chanted of the "niggas on the block getting shot" I thought about a time when Pizza Hut didn't deliver to my friend's house because her complex was located too close to the 55th Green Line el. Yet again, my twerk session, blocked. Eventually, the more I listened, the more exhausted I felt. It's like the weight of Fiasco's frustrations fell on me like a ton of bricks. It even hurts to write this post, and this is only after having it on repeat for one day! Even still, I can't sit here, lie, and tell you Tetsuo & Youth isn't worth listening to. The extraodinary production from S1 and Vohn Beatz & the great DJ Dahi should not be ignored; plus the vocal cameos and lyrics will touch your soul. Just be prepared to be emotionally, physically, and mentally drained afterwards. Here's how Tetsuo & Youth weighs out: #LaidStr8 Scale: 4/8Twerkabilty: 3/8#Str8Songs: 11. Chopper, 7.
