This holiday, if you are looking for a way to pinch pennies and still give great gifts, you should consider thrifting! Here are 7 tips for getting your thrift on this Christmas. 1. Make time. Thrift shopping is not something that can be done quickly. This is an activity that needs time and patience. 2. Go often! Every day, clothes are coming in to thrift stores. According to the popular blog“Nifty Thrifty Goodwill,” Goodwill always has donations coming in. “They pretty much leave all donations on the floor no matter what the season, etc. Many people will go shopping 3 times a week and find new stuff every time.” So, don’t give up if you don’t find what you’re looking for after a few visits. The mantra “third time’s a charm” is not a fact when thrift shopping. 3. Dig. Get down and dirty when thrifting. Fab finds might not be out in the open for you to easily see, so be prepared to scour through clothing racks and sift through various display bins. 4. Explore. Local charities like Goodwill and Salvation Army are easy and accessible. However, you might get tired of seeing the usual clothing items, so be adventurous and check out more thrift shops outside your regular shopping area. 5. Check Every Aisle! Don’t stop at the third aisle because you got tired, there could be a cute red dress waiting with your name on it in aisle four! “I remember when my friend thought she wouldn’t be able to find anything because we had been there for an hour trying stuff on. I told her to look around one more time because she probably missed something and sure enough she found her now favorite black sun dress and she looks bomb in it,” says Howard University sophomore, Deidre Belinfanti. 6. Keep an Open Mind! Don’t go in with preconceived notions that you won’t find what you’re looking for, staying open to the possibilities means more chances to discover the unexpected. 7. Just Have Fun! Go with your friends and try on crazy new outfits and enjoy yourself. “My friends and I love thrift shopping, we do it every once a month. It’s a time to really bond,” says Dayo Johnson.
