They did it! Jackie Robinson West Little League Baseball has solidified its place in the Little League World Series finals. The team is two games away from being Little League World Series champions. The band of young baseball players from our city have taken Chicago news headlines by storm, rallied their community behind them, and combatted Chicago's notorious reputation with positivity.
It seems like a lot of pressure to put on a group of young players spanning ages, but the kids have taken the pressure in stride. In the last few years, all eyes have been on our city. Between the murder rate and rappers like Chief Keef and Young Durk, headlines have seldom been positive. Drill music has cast this cloud that all Chicago youths do is make music and shoot guns. The series has placed a much needed light on the other talents that Chicago kids have.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of taking my niece to the coolest toy store in Chicago: Rotofugi. I think that Rotofugi just may be the only toy store perfect for adults. The walls were tricked out with figurines big and small and they also have a gallery. I was mesmerized by the collectables that spanned the wall. Characters ranged from Frankenstein to a play off of Disney’s Princesses. Then, I noticed there was a gallery in the back of the store. A wonderful wander into the toy store revealed the works of Jay Ryan. Better Days Ahead was the exhibit on display. The paintings depicted playful dinosaurs and cityscapes.
I was a kid in a candy store wandering back and forth between the gallery and the store. And I didn’t leave empty handed. Both my niece and I toted collectable minis out of the store. My collectable now hangs on my keys. The cow carton reminds me to keep it light. I do still love toys after all. The exhibit I saw ended last week but you can check out the latest artist and the cool toys at the store at www.rotofugi.com |
