Against the Stream Magazine has been a declared supporter of The Pussy Riot for some time now. We wrote a piece on the HBO documentary about the punk band in June of 2013. The latest in the courageous story of this Russian band has appalled us. The attack released on The Pussy Riot was inhumane and completely unprovoked. The women were beaten and pepper sprayed within seconds of their protests further reflecting the injustices that shape Russia's civil rights climate. There is little to be said about this unfortunate event other than to highlight the history of civil rights in our own country. When any change has been attempted in this world, it has been met with violence. The brave members of The Pussy Riot reiterate the unwavering face of civilians who want and deserve rights that they have been denied. Our prayers go out to the members and we look forward to a better day in Russia.
