There are still 12 days left to support model and designer Shani Crowe & her "Braids" project. The creative is less than $200 shy of her campaign goal, supported by 3Arts, an organization working to sustain and promote Chicago artists with a focus on women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities. The exhibit will feature a series of photography and video to illustrate the nuanced artistry of hair braiding. Crowe says: Historically, facets of Black life are mocked or exploited for capital gain while actual Black people are removed from the conversation. This is why it feels imperative to add my voice to this conversation, to help define my culture with an artistic perspective rooted in Black unity and empowerment. With your help, "Braids" will be released as a solo exhibition in Spring 2016. Donate Now:

I've found myself at Iridium's newest location in Wicker Park a few times this summer. The chic spot for one of Chicago's hottest urban lines has been the canvas for all kinds of sexy splash. This past weekend, I got an exclusive peek at the viewing for Roy French's latest video, "Glo." The glorious visual, filmed by Chicago's Phil Jordan, featured a classical dancer in the rain. ☔ "Glo" fits the bill for French's unique style, but what makes this latest video dope is its tennis court setting. The explosion of the dancer's white dress on the blue and green background was seriously gorgeous. I won't spoil any more of the goodies seeing as you guys may have to wait a while to see the video, but just know Jordan did his thing (as usual). French's video wasn't the only exclusive I got. Earlier in the summer at the Iridium Wicker Park opening fashion show I got to interview AJ Peace. The Fashion Coordinator for the explosive clothing line chatted with me and Allie all about the show. Check it out below. And get a look through the glo-filled gallery at the top! | |
