Americans wince every time they hear Lil Wayne say "Beat the pussy up like Emmett Till," now the rapster has added insult to injury by treading upon the American flag. While shooting the video for his latest song, "God Bless America," Dwayne Carter stood in front of the flag as it drop.. Carter knowingly continued to perform on the flag after its descent to his feet. His response to the backlash has been to call his actions unintentional. What adult accidentally tramples on the flag? The same person who accidentally trivialized the brutal murder of a teenager. A person who has yet to understand their Civic Responsibility.
While I never expected a rapper like Lil Wayne to sing kumbaya at any peace rallies, I did expect for him to consider his own hide. I assumed that after the outrage and his loss of endorsements following the Emmett Till incident that Mr. Carter would wise up and consider the American people that support him. I was wrong. Lil Wayne does not care for the ancestors that gave him the freedom to speak on a track. He does not care for the millions of lives sacrificed for him to film a video. Instead he cares about the funnelling of American dollars into his pockets. Even if that is at the cost of belittling the American people. So, if he doesn't care, then why should you? Lets be frank, refusing to buy his music won't hurt his pockets. He has been supported long enough to sustain himself. However, packing his shows and purchasing his records will only support the downright disrespect he considers creative expression. Wayne and every other individual who has enough impact to sell a million records has a responsibility.; that responsibility encompasses being considerate in their lyrics and cognizant in their actions. But I guess I can't be surprised that a convicted felon is failing to be responsible citizen. I haven't been on the Wayne train for years; thankfully because its become a locomotive for the ludacris.
