I recently got to have a dope interview with another of Chicago's artist in the come up! The incredibly inspirational Danny Froze chopped it up with me about his start and his future. Read the interview below! And if you're a subbie, check out the audio wrap-up on Monday! Get in tune with Danny Froze by checking out his latest video for his track called "Deadbeat" Siren: How did you get your start in music? Danny Froze:Really, when I lived in the city, I wasn't into music. I was just into running around trying to learn how to flip. You know just real active in the streets. I got an interest in music when I moved out to Park Forest. You know, it was really the style. Everybody was rapping. All the young boys in the neighborhood were rapping or playing basketball. I ran into some guys named Reggie and Ral and then two were rapping together for a long time and by me hanging around them they put it on me. That's really how it got started, with those guys. We ended up forming a group, me, Reggie and Ral. It was just a hobby and a activity at first. It was something fun, something to do; putting videos together. I listened to a lot of music with my brothers. I have four older brothers and two sisters. We're just a real musical family. They were always in tune with all different types of music. And by me being the second youngest, it was just always on me. The talent was always there. S: How did you get your name? DF: I go by Danny Froze. It really came from sports. I used to play a lot of sports in high school and all while I was little: basketball and football. I was real fast and big in any sport that I played. I was real athletic, so I picked up the name Froze. They said I was real fast and I make people look like they're going slow. Danny is short for my first name. So I just put it together. Wanted to keep it natural, you know. S: What has influenced you musically? DF: One of my biggest influences would have to be my brother. He used to rap and do poems all the time. He really taught me the art once I got interested in it. He showed me how to do it. Another artist that I grew up to is Tupac. I listened to a lot of Tupac. I used to like the songs he dedicated to his family and his mother. Artist that's out now, doing their thing? I'd say J. Cole. I like his music. Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West. It's certain styles and certain lanes that he goes in that I pull a lot of creativity from. S: A lot of times when I ask that question, people respond like, "I do my own thing and nobody really influences me." But that's not the truth. We hear music and it inspires us. I'm glad you weren't hesitant to tell us. And who doesn't love Tupac? I said laughing A good track come on you gotta bob your head. DF: Yeah, some of [Tupac] music is real touching. You can tell when a person speaking from they heart. It's certain songs that catch your attention. And at the same time, it's songs that don't. So for anybody to say nothing influences them, that's a little bit off to me because you gotta follow before you lead. Regardless, you gotta like something and that's what gives you the idea to do it. Besides, God giving you that gift, you got to listen to other people and that helps you create your own style. At the same time you can be you. S: Have you been performing? DF: Oh yeah! I been doing music all my life. I moved out to Park Forest in 8th grade. I been through talent shows to doing local skating rinks, then we branched off. We moved to Atlanta and I really started doing shows. It was like an everyday thing at a point and time. S: What was that experience like for you? DF: When I first started, it was fun, because a lot of people that we knew were coming out to see us. And as I grew and learned what to do, it became like a basketball game. You practice and practice, you listen to your music. And then it's game night. You have to put on a show in front of a lot people that you don't know and people that you do know. And you're bringing out your confidence. It's a good feeling, especially when people like it. S: So, what's going on with Danny Froze right now? DF: I was in a group last year. I just recently started my solo project. I'm thinking about dropping a mixtape at the end of this month actually; end of April or beginning of May. S: Well, look at there! Wasn't that just perfect timing? We both chuckled. DF: Oh yeah, I gotta get some more music out there. I just want people to know that I'm real gifted with it and I take it serious. I love it and if I like it, I know everybody else will. S: So you know when you drop this mixtape that you need to let me know, so I can be like check out Danny Froze's mixtape. DF: Oh yeah I'm gonna keep you posted. S: How can people access you? DF: Everything is under Danny Froze. Twitter is @DannyFroze, Facebook is Danny Froze Music Page. S: Ok. And what is that one thing that everyone needs to know about Danny Froze. DF: They need to know that all my music I make comes from the heart. It's just a God given talent and a gift from God and I put God first in all my music.
