This week's funniest retweets! Here's the Recap: The show began with Miss Pauletta (THAT IS MARY JANE'S REAL NAME) giving Andre fallatio in her front room as her brother stops over to beg. Yup, the secrets out! Somehow, the experience is spun to bring the siblings together under the umbrella of addiction. (Yeah, I couldn't take it either.) Mary Jane and her brother spend time together and we learn more about his story. On the work front, Kara is pitched a story by someone from another show about a woman who died in her home and was left there for three years. She gives the show to Mary Jane and, because our starlet doesn't want to die alone, they do the story on Talk Back with Mary Jane Paul. Cue the unnecessary Jesse Jackson appearance. After Mary Jane's show aired, the anchor that was originally set to do the story visits Mary Jane. SHE READS HER FROM LEFT TO RIGHT! The well dressed, Caucasian woman lets her know to "stay in her lane" in the most polite way known to man, then she mentions that the rat was fired. I found it so ironic that the show was focused on Mary Jane's need for the peen instead of how she got played. But, what's this show really about, Omari Hardwick. Ha!
Here's My Perspective: Watching Being Mary Jane this week, I recalled a woman, on some ratchet show years ago, telling her friends that there was no point in her yelling at her man. She wasn't going to leave him. At the time, I was dating a chronic cheater and I said to myself, "I'm not leaving my man either." I stopped making scenes about his infidelity and, over time, my silence gave me the ammo to leave his tired behind. I said all that to say, what's the point of Mary Jane beginning each episode with an episode. By the end of the show we're just going to end up seeing Omari's rock hard body anyway. Mary Jane had no remorse taking the addiction test, so why are we supposed to take her remorse at any other time seriously? Maybe if she stopped being dramatic and started being real, she could focus on important things; like how she got read by that White lady. HA! -MK

Here's the Recap: Andre's wife, Avery, offers him a post-nuptial agreement in an effort to save their marriage. He refuses it and it becomes crystal clear that Andre is really "in love" with Mary Jane. Then, while still married, Andre proposes to Mary Jane. He even had a ring y'all. This proposal sends Mary Jane on a quest to find out if she really does want to be married. Outside of her drama with Andre, Mary Jane addresses Kara's new position on Mark's show. The two hash it out all episode until Mary Jane hosts a girls' night. In said girls' night, Mary Jane reveals her miniature sperm bucket from the freezer. What should have been a turnt event with a stripper to boot boiled down to a collective of successful women spilling the beans over their messy lives. The best part about the sucky girls' night is that stripper stopped disrobing and started to chime in. Here's My Perspective: Mary Jane keeps opening the little blue box that houses Andre's engagement ring. The ring was so paramount that it almost became a character this week. It made more appearances than Mark did. While Mary Jane questions if marriage is something she has been trained to want, I think that the ring is really what she has doubts about.. Each time she peers inside of the box it seems as if Mary Jane is trying to understand if the rock that Andre tried to bribe her with is worth it; not if marriage is worth it. I get MJ's doubts about marriage. Honestly, any educated, successful, black woman has been there. (Have you seen those stats?!) Being a woman in today's society means that the possibilities are endless; having a kid and a husband just aren't the peak of a woman's priority anymore. BUT and this is a huge BUT, Mary Jane and any other woman must remember that it's Jewels Over Jewelry! Before being stupefied by some jewelry, we have to remember the precious pieces we have within; our flaws, our love, and our time. Mary Jane wasn't doubting marriage until she started equating it with her adulterous man. I was all for tying the knot until I let the statistics overwhelm me. Whenever we start to focus on the jewelry, Ie. the ring, instead of our own jewels, then doubts will arise. When we care about ourselves more than we do about getting married, then happiness will be inevitable. We got to start letting the jewelry be less valuable then our own jewels. Then, maybe we won't be mistresses. -MK Photo Courtesy Of: Xfinity TV Blog We found an interview with Gabrielle Union and this cute picture to the right on Xfinity's TV Blog. The interview was written by Aisha Jefferson. Click here for the whole story. Here's a highlight of the interview. A lot of women–and even men–are raised to want to get married and have children but you say that Mary Jane is questioning whether she even desires that lifestyle. Why is that a struggle for her? Her parents have been married for a long time but her mother has become kind of cantankerous...And she’s very protective of her father, very protective of her family but wondering if this is something that’s even going to be for her. Especially being involved with Andre (played by Hardwick) and seeing that whole thing and wondering, ‘Is that what marriage looks like?...For me, as someone who has been married and divorced, when you’re engaged, everyone talks about how amazing it is and they talk about the dress, they talk about who’s going to marry you and all of this other stuff but nobody ever tells you how hard it is and then you get married, and they’re like, ‘It sucks, doesn’t it?’ And then you’re like, ‘Ah, you didn’t say any of this when I was dress shopping and we were picking out center pieces and all of that other stuff... Marriage isn’t for everybody just like they say college isn’t for everybody, neither is marriage. And you have to figure that out before you do it. Before I begin, welcome again to the newest addition to ATS Magazine. Since Being Mary Jane has a lot of relationship dish in it, I figured it would be an awesome way to give our new section (which is about relationships) a splash. Although there will be posts outside of the BMJ weekly recap, you can read my perspective of the latest of the show here every Wednesday. *Caution* I want to apologize in advance. This post contains expletives
But regardless of her success in life, she is still missing love. The show chronicles her life and the men in her bed. In the 2 hour introductory special, we met MJ's boo, Andre. He just so happens to be married. (Right, where have you heard that one before?) Mary Jane finds out, stumbles upon his wife, and tells her of the affair. Well, in the first episode, Omari Hardwick's rock solid fine ass traipse back in her life. (He was escorted out in the special with a water hose! =]) Along with his return, his wife visits Mary Jane at her office. Viewers watch MJ struggle in the workplace and blah, blah, blah! We are left with the scene of Gabby Union's butt while she sexes up the married man in the shower...of their GYM! The Ridiculously Flawed Big PicturePhoto Courtesy of: BET When in the blue blazens is a rich black woman gonna screw her own man? Or hell, at least not a man that's MARRIED!! I admire Mara Brock Akil so much! She is a beautiful, talented, and successful, MARRIED woman. Her work in Girlfirends was biting, real, and treasured. I have no clue where this one's going. I don't see an angle for Mary Jane, if she is a mistress, outside of being the emotional, less-powerful version of Olivia Pope. One of my followers (@larrycurlyanfro) tweeted me and said, " Scandal's already filling the "my life's full of crazy/extreme drama & only my degree loves me" show quota. bmj is pushing it lol" And I could not agree more.
While I'll spare you the rant I went on in response to Scandal, I will say this. This can't be it y'all. What are our aspiring black female success stories supposed to feel watching these shows. That Being Mary Jane is juicy? Are we supposed to respect her? Because I don't. Mama Daisy has a saying: Ain't no dick that good. TV shows make it seem like these women who have made enough good decisions to get to their successful jobs can't make one choice to leave some dick alone. It's crazy to me. Ladies we can't control what happens to us! But we have control over every moment after. I say that to myself all the time. When Mary Jane was hosing down Andre screaming for him to get off her property, she was my homie. I don't know if I can rock with the chick getting busy in the shower. It's not about morals or pride or even love, its about smarts. When is a successful female role going to actually have some? I mean, let's be real, its only a matter of time before who Mary Jane is sucking becomes more important than her job to viewers. Look at Olivia? What does she do again? I don't think she saved anyone in a while lol. I think that screenwriters should wise up and give a wealthy woman some penis without the side of marriage. When are these hoes gone stop?
